Pacific Northwest, Cascadia Rising Exercise: June 7-10, 2016

On June 7-10, 2016, Tribes of the Northwest are partnering with FEMA Region 10, and all levels of government within the states of Washington, Oregon, and Idaho to participate in a multi-state exercise. The exercise named Cascadia Rising, consists of a scenario involving a 9.0 magnitude earthquake along the Cascadia Subduction Zone (CSZ), located off the coast of Washington, with a resulting tsunami. The simulated complex disaster scenario is meant to test the Pacific Northwest’s ability to respond and recover from a devastating event. FEMA has projected that such an event would kill 13,000 people and injure another 27,000 as a result of the quake and the following tsunami. Six core capabilities will be tested during the Cascadia Rising Exercise Operational Communications, Public Health, Medical Services, Mass Care Services, Situational Assessment, Critical Transportation, and Operational Coordination. The purpose of the exercise is to improve joint operations, reveal planning gaps and resource limitations. Follow the event #CascadiaRising
